Recovery
The DWI assessment, treatment, and relicensing process is complex, and varies greatly depending upon the specifics of each case. On this page you can find frequently asked questions about your situation.
All responses here are in accordance with the procedures in practice at Recovery Dynamics. Each agency providing DWI services will have their own policies and procedures, and all will operate within the established state guidelines for these agencies.
You can do your assessment and subsequent recommended education/treatment at any authorized DWI services facility in the state.
You need a recent, certified (costs $13) or uncertified ($10.75), complete history. North Carolina makes this available to you in person in Raliegh, or through the DMV website. If you have it, bring your record to your assessment. Otherwise, Recovery Dynamics will send for your record for you.
Out-of-state issues complicate an already complicated process.
Each state involved must have their DWI laws addressed. Out-Of-State DWI's are handled on a case by case basis. Expect your assessment to take longer.
The main concern is to ensure the assessment covers the requirements of both states, so one recommendation can be made to satisfy both states involved.
Bring the assessment fee. Bring your current, complete driving history if you have it. Bring your original ticket and BAC printout, if you have them. Know your NC license or ID number, your Social Security Number, and the BAC for you charge. Visit the Clerk of Court in the county of your charge if need be. Bring contact information for your attorney or Probation Officer, if applicable. If you need them, bring your reading glasses.
An assessment takes about an hour and a half.
At the end of the assessment, you will have a copy of your assessment, which allows you, if eligible, to get a pre-trial limited driving priviledge, and a post-trial limited driving priviledge. You will also have the information needed and the opportunity to plan for and deal with upcoming events dealing with suspension and restoration of your driving priviledge.
Each facility authorized to provide services to DWI offenders is required to subscribe to a Code of Conduct. That Code, in part, reads: "to treat all clients with respect, courtesy and professionalism, realizing that our services are not intended to be part of the client's punishment for the DWI offense."
